| This week, members of the Malvern Fire Company are visiting local schools throughout our service area as part of Fire Prevention Week and Fire Prevention Month. These visits provide an important opportunity to teach children how to prevent fires, recognize hazards, and respond safely during an emergency.
During each presentation, firefighters and EMS personnel discuss essential fire safety topics, including the importance of working smoke alarms, developing and practicing a home escape plan, calling 9-1-1 in an emergency, and knowing what to do if fire or smoke is present in the home. Students also have the opportunity to meet first responders, tour emergency vehicles, and learn about the equipment used to protect our community.
This year's Fire Prevention Week theme," Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower," focuses on the safe use and charging of lithium-ion battery-powered devices such as cell phones, laptops, e-bikes, scooters, and power tools. Families are encouraged to use manufacturer-approved chargers, avoid charging devices on soft surfaces, and monitor charging devices whenever possible.
Education remains one of the most effective tools in preventing fires and reducing injuries. By teaching children fire safety habits at an early age, we help build a safer community for everyone.
The members of the Malvern Fire Company would like to thank the students, teachers, administrators, and school staff for welcoming us into their classrooms. We look forward to continuing our mission of public education and helping our community stay safe throughout the year.
Remember: Fire prevention starts at home, but it begins with education. Stay safe, stay prepared, and help prevent fires before they start. |
