July 25, 2026

👨‍⚕️ EMT
Approximately 150–200 hours of training
Provides Basic Life Support (BLS)
Performs CPR, controls bleeding, splints injuries, administers oxygen, and gives certain emergency medications
Focuses on stabilizing patients and rapid transport
🩺 Paramedic
1,200–1,800+ hours of education (often includes an associate degree)
Provides Advanced Life Support (ALS)
Starts IVs, administers a wide range of medications, interprets ECGs, performs advanced airway procedures, and treats complex medical emergencies
The Bottom Line
EMTs save lives. Paramedics save lives. Both are highly trained professionals who work together as a team to provide the best possible care when every second counts.
