| When an ambulance arrives, it may be staffed by different types of emergency medical providers: an EMT, an AEMT, or a paramedic. What is the difference between them?
An EMT, or Emergency Medical Technician, provides basic lifesaving skills. An AEMT, or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, offers both basic lifesaving skills and some advanced care. A paramedic delivers a higher level of care, including advanced lifesaving skills such as cardiac monitoring, giving medications, using a cardiac defibrillator, and managing advanced airways.
These professionals work together to provide skilled care during emergencies and to help save lives. |
