Mulch Fire Safety Tips

Maintain your property’s safety by following these mulch fire prevention tips:

Create a buffer zone by keeping mulch away from buildings, decks, and shrubs. Use gravel, stone, or bare soil to form a protective barrier.

Do not dispose of cigarette butts in mulch. Place noncombustible containers near entrances and exits to help prevent fire!

Keep mulch moist, especially during hot and windy weather. Dry mulch is more likely to ignite.

Check lighting and wiring near mulch. Use outdoor-rated equipment and keep heat sources away from mulch areas.

Limit mulch depth to two to four inches to prevent excessive heat buildup.

These small steps can help prevent large fires. Stay safe.
