Quick Stop on East Whiteland House Fire
By News Desk
May 10, 2016
At 19:38 hrs while members were attending the weekly training night, the Malvern Fire Company along with Station 2 (Berwyn) for RIT was dispatched to assist Station 5 (East Whiteland) on a reported house fire in the unit block of Oak Hill Circle in East Whiteland Township.
Ladder 4 arrived and reported smoke showing from the roof and requested the working fire dispatch. Crews advanced a 1 ¾” hose line into the home and determined the fire to be in the basement. Ladder 4’s crew took the hose line down the interior stairwell and located and extinguished the fire.
As this was taking place Engine 5-1 arrived laying a 5” supply line to supply Ladder 4. Berwyn Engine 2-1 handled the RIT responsibilities and additional crews from Station 4, 5, 3 & 6 handled searches, ventilation, salvage, overhaul and other fire ground tasks.
Deputy Chief 5 (Strauss) had the command and the fire was placed under control at 19:59 hrs. One civilian was transported from the scene to a local hospital. County and Township Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
